Smyth County Jam Bios

Jim King

Jim King - Jim plays fiddle and sings. He was taught to play by Emily Spencer, of the Whitetop Mountain Band. He cannot claim a musical heritage from family members; he learned on his own. Jim enjoys fishing, and likes to rabbit-hunt with his beagles.  Jim says he is also a bee keeper. Jim has retired from his own catering service. Both Jim and Gert go back over to Mt Rogers School to take refresher lessons often from the Spencer’s. Jim and Gert have a band called "Rafferty Knob Ramblers" with Sparky Hollins (guitar) and Barbara Walton (bass). The Smyth County Jam hopes Jim and Gert will come back to visit and play whenever possible. Both Jim and Gert say their favorite music to listen to is The Whitetop Mountain Band.
