Smyth County Jam Bios

Kevin Jackson

Kevin Jackson (left)- The Smyth County Jam is glad to welcome Kevin Jackson to our stage! He comes from Bristol, VA, where he operates an asphalt plant for JD Watson Co. Kevin plays fiddle, (left handed!) also banjo, guitar and bass. Currently he is with the well known" Wolf Creek Band." They tend to play lots of different types of music, plus bluegrass. Some ago back he played with his family band, known as the "Bluegrass Cut-Ups" for five or six years. After a while everyone grew up and went their separate ways. Kevin has been playing since he was nine and says that makes about thirty-five years total. Leroy Canter (deceased) was his mentor, and tutored him quite extensively on the fiddle. Kevin also admires the work of Bill Monroe, Stuart Duncan and Mark O'Conner. We hope he will return to visit and play for us soon again.
