Smyth County Jam Bios

Gerry Williams

Gerry Williams - The British are coming! The British are coming! The British are here! The Smyth County Jam is fortunate to have visitors from many parts of the world. Gerry Williams comes to us from Sussex (County) England. He has been coming over to the USA since 1995. This time he brought a couple of friends to show our unique Appalachian culture. Gerry sings and plays guitar. He says he began on guitar when he was about sixteen years old and now is seventy-five. Gerry is a retired joiner (carpentry trade). He has two adult daughters. Several years ago he used to sing with Bill Clifton, when Bill lived in England. Bill now lives in the Mendota area. Gerry and friends are renting a small cottage in Floyd, Virginia. They plan to go to the Galax Fiddlers Convention this week. Gerry and Gina May Bailey have a band and play some in England. The band is called "Cut the Shuffle". Gerry says the Carter Family are among his all time favorites and quite often they will do Carter songs on stage. A favorite Carter Family song is "My Old Cottage Home." We invite Gerry and Gina back to Smyth County Jam any time the are able to come.
