Smyth County Jam Bios

Ted Trivett

Ted Trivett - Ted says he has played guitar for about fifty-two or fifty-three years-"practice makes perfect". In addition to his guitar work, Ted is a fine and very strong singer! The Smyth County Jam is always glad to have musicians of Ted's caliber and dedication show up. He makes his home in Konnarock, VA just across the mountain from Chilhowie. Ted says his mother played guitar in 1927 and was practicing to make a record in Bristol with GB Grayson; however her mother would not allow her to go. Who knows what raw talent may have been lost for this reason? This was, of course, during the now - famed Bristol Sessions. Ted's grandfather played a fiddle and his grandfather on the 'Miller' side danced, so his musical ability comes down from both sides of his family. Ted was one of the original Whitetop Mountain Band, the first guitarist they had. You can tell without asking Ted that he is an admirer of Jimmy Martin's music.
