Smyth County Jam Bios

Rufus Thames

Rufus Thames - The Smyth County Jam is happy to welcome Rufus Thames to our venue. Rufus says he has been here once before, but did not get on stage. He came from Charleston, South Carolina originally, but now lives in Bristol, Virginia. Rufus is an extremely talented singer and plays guitar as well. He says he has no family background in music as far as he knows. Rufus began playing guitar about twenty-five years ago. He is employed by Master Model Craft (a machine shop). Rufus says his hobby is traveling, and playing music. Rufus says he admires the music of Doc Watson. He is married and his wife plays bass, although Monday is a bad night for her to come to the jam. They do not have children. His favorite songs are " How Mountain Girls Can Love" and "Bluebirds Singing for Me". We sincerely hope Rufus will return to the Smyth County Jam any time he can make it.
