Smyth County Jam Bios

Buster Sexton

Buster Sexton - The Smyth County Jam is very pleased to have Buster Sexton with us. He is from Wytheville, Virginia originally and now lives in Stuart's Draft, Virginia. Buster is a talented individual: he is an accomplished banjo picker, excellent on mandolin player, and plays dobro, bass and guitar. He is a singer worthy of mention also. Multi-talented in every sense of the word. Buster's dad was his inspiration, he says. His father played guitar. His father was from Cripple Creek, near Wytheville. Buster has been playing since he was fourteen years old. He played with the McPeak Brothers several years ago and with the Country Gentlemen. Currently Buster plays with the band "Patent Pending" out of Winchester, Virginia. He is retired from the federal government. Now days he says he is doing what he loves and making a living from it--playing music! Buster has four children, his youngest son, Chris Sexton, plays fiddle with the well-known band "Nothing Fancy". Bill Emerson, who founded the Country Gentlemen taught him to play. Buster says he likes to listen to the Country Gentlemen and that his favorite song is Redwood Hill by this outstanding group. We do hope Buster will come again soon to the Smyth County Jam.
