Seven Seventeen Band

Seven Seventeen Band - The Smyth County Jam welcomes a new group to our midst and appreciates their time spent with us.

Seven-Seventeen Band consists of:

Adam Lowe sings lead and plays guitar. He is from Speedwell, VA. Adam has been playing guitar about eleven years. He also plays bass fiddle. Both his father and a brother play banjo. Adam is employed by a restaurant in Rural Retreat, VA. He says he admires Wayne Taylor of Blue Highway.

Larry Grimes is from London, Kentucky and is a very accomplished mandolin player. Larry has been playing since he was about nine years old. He also plays rhythm guitar some times. Both his parents played music too. The late John Duffy of the “Seldom Scene" was one of his favorite musicians.

Daniel Lowe handles the five-string banjo very well. He too, hails from Speedwell and is the father of the above mentioned Adam Lowe. Daniel says he has been playing around thirty years. He also plays guitar and mandolin. One of his grandfathers was well known in Tazewell County, VA for his mandolin playing. Daniel was born and raised in Tazewell County. He has just the one child, Adam, who is a help to him at the restaurant, the "Back in Time Diner" at Rural Retreat. They have music at the diner as well as food. Daniel likes the music of Earl Scruggs and Blue Highway.

Dave Mathews is from the Barren Springs area of Wythe County, VA. Dave says he has been playing forty plus years. He plays guitar, and upright bass and sings also. Jimmy Martin is an artist he admires greatly. He does quite a bit of Martin's material, and does it very well! Dave has been a long-distance trucker during his working years. He says he comes from a family who are all musically talented. Dave has two children.
