Smyth County Jam Bios

John Perry

John Perry - John plays guitar with the Crooked Road Ramblers and makes his home in Independence, Virginia. He has played guitar for thirty-five plus years. He plays some banjo. Another excellent gift is his ability in flat-foot dancing. John has second place in the dance category at Galax Old Time Fiddler's Convention; he says five or six times (maybe more.) You have to be a good dancer to do this! John played with The New River Ramblers Band (with his brothers) --they won many contests and had quite a following. The band broke up a number of years ago, when John lost his brother, Buck. He has also played with several other bands after this. John has two daughters, who are now adults. He is retired from an exercise equipment company. John says he admires the music of Ralph Stanley. We hope John will come back to the Smyth County Jam every time he gets the chance.
