Roy McMillan

Roy McMillan (1930-2013) - Roy McMillan comes to the Smyth County Jam from Lewisville, NC. That is a good way down the road. We are happy to see Roy here. He is close to eighty years old and still playing and singing and composing songs. Roy says he has been playing since he was about he was eight! That is a long, long time!! He was employed by a body and paint shop for about thirty years. Roy has seven children. Only one son used to play music. Roy plays with the "High Country Boys" He says his grandmother played claw hammer banjo. Roy says his hero in music has always been Bill Monroe Roy can be reached at lastleg71@aol.com.

MCMILLAN LEWISVILLE Roy B. McMillan May 17, 1930 - July 5, 2014 Roy B. McMillan, 84, passed away Saturday July 5, 2014 at his residence. He was born May 17, 1930 in Carroll County, Virginia to the late Cleve and Mary Sutphin McMillan. He enjoyed playing bluegrass music. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Irene Bobo. Surviving are his wife Carrie H. McMillan; sons Doug McMillan, Bryan (Carmen) White, Winston (Vonda) White; daughters Beverly (Darrell) Rowland, Shannon Barber (James Conner), Sheila (Keithe) Whisenhunt; fourteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister Anna Semones; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday July 7, 2014 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. Online condolences may be made at www.gentryfuneralservice.com.
