Smyth County Jam Bios

Elizabeth LaPrelle

Elizabeth LaPrelle - Elizabeth LaPrelle comes to the Smyth County Jam from her home in Rural Retreat, VA. She was born in Chapel Hill, NC. She is a folk singer and a claw-hammer banjo picker. Elizabeth says she graduated from William and Mary College, in Williamsburg, VA. She took an independent major in Appalachian Music. An independent major in any subject is a big deal! At present time she says she is just traveling around playing and singing. What an ideal job!! Elizabeth has a brother and a sister; she is the youngest of the three. She has been singing about all her life, and says her mother also sings. She has played banjo for about three or four years. Two folk singers she admires are Sheila Kay Adams and the late Texas Gladden.
