Smyth County Jam Bios

Emma John

Emma John - We welcome Emma John to the Smyth County Jam. She comes to this venue from her home in London, England. We are always thrilled to have any visitor, but most especially those who come from other countries. Emma is pursuing a career in journalism in England. She is an extremely gifted fiddler; hard-driving and very enthusiastic with her music! Emma says she has been playing fiddle since she was five years old. She gained a flock of admiring fans during her set here with Raymond Campbell and his Valley Grass Band. This young lady can sing as well as play fiddle. She says she does not play any other instrument--with this great talent she need not do so. She and her friend, Daniel Martin, from Charlotte, North Carolina, are travelling around the south to learn more about the music played here, particularly bluegrass music. Emma says she is unmarried at this point in time. She says her favorite musician is a fellow from New York, named Chris Thile, who is a bluegrass picker. Her current favorite song is "Footprints in the Snow."
