Smyth County Jam Bios

Golden Age Gospel

Golden Age Gospel - Here are five men who are some of the best we have seen lately at the Smyth County Jam. They come from the Jewel Ridge/Richlands, VA area, where they play for a retirement home once weekly.

Quay White is the spokesman for the group, he is from Jewel Ridge, Va. Quay plays guitar, bass and sings.

Then we have Jim Cox, from Richlands, VA, who came out of retirement to play bass and help with the singing. He has played bass professionally all over, they tell us.

Dean Hubbard plays banjo. He has played over twenty years with his family gospel group:"Walking by Faith", travelling to many places.

Tommy Taylor lives in Witten Valley, he is a writer of tall tales; having published one book so far. Tommy says he has been a cowboy all his life and still keeps horses. Among Tommy's talents are an amazing harmonica player and an excellent singer. He is very out going and easy to talk to.

Next we have Buddy Dickens, who can claim kin to a very famous woman singer in folk circles, Ms Hazel Dickens. Buddy plays guitar. He works for the state of Maryland and lives there, when he is not coming back to Thompson Valley to play with his friends. He has a mobile home in Thompson Valley. Buddy has a band in Baltimore called "The Baltimore Bluegrass Meet Up"
