Eddie Cales

Eddie Cales - The Smyth County Jam would like to welcome Eddie Cales to the stage. Eddie is playing dobro with the Brandon Farley band tonight and what a dobro player he is. He was born in 1943 in a murky hollow in "Ramp," West Virginia. His mother, Prudence Cales, played the banjo claw hammer style, and could be overheard singing the songs of Woody Guthrie. Eddie first started playing "the dobro" when he was 14. He taught myself using an old Kay guitar and a case knife for a bar. Over the past 50 years, his main influences have been "Uncle" Josh Graves and Charlie Waller of the Country Gentlemen. Eddie is a mountain man and loves to hunt.
