Robert Boyd - The Smyth County Jam welcomes new-comer Robert Boyd to our jam. Robert makes his home in Tazewell, Virginia and is originally from Buchanan County. Robert is a coal miner. He has worked in the mines about eight plus years. He plays guitar and sings very well. He says he can also play mandolin, banjo, and bass. Robert admits to being single, however he has a girl friend. He has played music for about sixteen years. Robert used to play with the Bluegrass Ramblers. At present, he is trying to put another band together. Robert is a cousin to Mel Street and says his uncle played banjo for Jimmy Martin; a musical family, indeed! Robert likes the music of Carter and Ralph Stanley, Roy Lee Centers; but his all-time favorite singer/musician is the late Keith Whitley.
