Ed Blevins

Ed Blevins - Ed Blevins is from Konnarock, Virginia, but now resides in Marion, Virginia. The Smyth County Jam bids Ed welcome to the jam. Ed is married with one daughter. He plays mandolin and 'some' banjo and sings some too. Ed is a member of Middle Fork Gospel band. He says some of his family played music. Ed has taught several people to play, he says Austin Greer is one of his students. He must be a really good teacher! Ed has been playing about six or seven years, before that just within his family. He chooses Del McCoury and his band as a favorite musician(s). Ed's favorite song is "Foggy Mountain Breakdown." He says he has been to the jam several times. He has a good impression of Smyth County Jam, states it is very nice. Ed is impressed with the jam's musicians is how well they get along and do not quarrel. He is the youngest of twelve children. Ed has retired from the power company, with forty years service.

In Memorandum

Archie Ed Blevins age 72 passed away on Friday, March 3, 2017, at the Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie, VA.

Mr. Blevins was born in Washington County, VA to the late Ulysses McCellan Blevins and Katherine Elizabeth McDaniel Blevins and was preceded in death by seven brothers and four sisters. He was the last of twelve children. Ed was a faithful member of the Adwolfe Freewill Baptist Church and had retired from Appalachian Power company after 35 years of service. Ed loved playing bluegrass music and played with many groups over the years. He was presently playing with Middle Fork Gospel out of White Top, VA.

Ed is survived by his wife of 53 years, Betty Powers Blevins, his daughter, Ronna Blevins and fiancee Jason Willard, special extended family, Adam & Keesha Thompson and their two sons, Zachary & Elijah, whom Ed and Betty considered their grandchildren. He is also survived by many wonderful brothers in law, sisters in law, nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thanks you to Valley Health Care Center and our wonderful neighbors and friends for all you have done.

Funeral services will be held at 7PM Sunday March 5, 2017 at the Bradley’s Funeral Home in Marion with Pastor Bob Surber and Pastor Dennis Blevins officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5:00 - 7:00 PM prior to services. Graveside services will be held at 11AM Monday at the Azen Cemetery in Konnarock. Family and friends are ask to meet at the funeral home at 10:00 AM for the procession to the cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.bradleysfh.com.
