Larry Anderson - Larry says this is his first time at the Smyth County Jam; we hope it will not be his last! He sings well and is able to play several instruments: guitar, fiddle ,mandolin and banjo which he plays most often. Larry makes his home in Abingdon, VA. He is a retired truck driver for Mid-mountain Foods. Larry says he has been playing since he was about fifteen years, beginning on the guitar. A grandfather whom he never saw was a banjo-player. ABINGDON, Va. Larry James Anderson, 65, of Abingdon, Va., passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ruby Harmon Anderson; and two brothers, William "Sam" Anderson and Clyde Anderson. Survivors include one daughter, Haley Jo Mayes of Rogersville, Tenn.; one brother, Roger Anderson (Jackie); three sisters, Lucille Hoss, Elizabeth Roark (Jr.), and Jane Bowers (Jack); and one sister-in-law, Brenda Anderson. Larry loved playing the guitar and singing gospel music at Swartz Chapel Church. His wishes were to be cremated with no visitation or service.
